GMWRAG had a number of sub-groups which were active in the dim and distant past. The only currently active sub-group is the North West Mental Health Welfare Rights Advisers Group. That’s why they have their own pages within our site.
GMWRAG is building an archive into this site so that the purpose and work of other sub-groups is not forgotten. This is very much a work in progress so, if you think there’s something you can add, feel free to do so via “Contact GMWRAG”. In the meantime, feel free to browse the following from time to time and you’ll see an ever growing archive of hopefully very interesting stuff and maybe be reminded of some old friends (and possibly enemies!).
Over time we will also be expanding this page to hopefully give you much nostalgic entertainment. We hope the photos above will jog some memories for starters.
Many of you will remember our esteemed colleague Andrew Grealey. Principle Officer of the long since defunct, and sadly missed, Bury Welfare Rights Service. Andrew also did sterling service in Rochdale and Salford before disappearing into an occasional media career.
Equally famous amongst GMWRAG members was Jim McGuigan of the equally missed Manchester Advice and trainer extraordinaire. Jim is still around and active on Facebook if you want to say hello. Far too much information about his beloved Celtic though.
You can also see Tudor Owen of what used to be Stockport Welfare Rights and Sue Baker of what is currently known as Stockport Advice.
Finally we have Jean Hart from what started out as Chester Unemployed Workers Centre and also from Cheshire West Welfare Rights, or something like that 🙂
If you don’t know which one is which you probably shouldn’t be on this page!
